Teen Organizer of Fort Worth Drive-By Shooting Sentenced to 30 Years

Hayden Bates-Vellmure

On April 25, 2025, 19-year-old Hayden Bates-Vellmure pled guilty to Aggravated Assault-Mass Shooting and was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in organizing a drive-by shooting on Las Vegas Trail.

The shooting occurred on May 1, 2024. Though Bates-Vellmure did not fire any shots himself, he gathered four others to carry out the attack. Six people, ranging in age from 3 to 19 years old, were injured in the shooting.

Bates-Vellmure is among several defendants charged and sentenced under Texas’ new "aggravated assault mass shooting" statute, passed in 2023, which allows multiple aggravated assault offenses from a single shooting event to be consolidated into one charge.

Codefendants Patrick Biscoe and Allan Gilbert have also been sentenced under the statute.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Dani Wojciak.
