National Quad Rugby Tournament returns to Irving

Senter Park Recreation Center, 901 S. Senter Road, is set to host the third annual United States Quad Rugby Association (USQRA) RISE National Invitational Tournament for the third consecutive year Feb. 17-19.

“We are excited that the quad rugby tournament is returning to Irving for the third consecutive year,” said City Manager Tommy Gonzalez. “The tournament showcases true sportsmanship and the event is always an invaluable experience for the athletes as well as the spectators.”

The competitive wheelchair tournament will feature six teams from across the nation and Canada including Edmonton Steel Wheels (Edmonton, Canada), Milwaukee Iron (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), North Texas Cowboys (Dallas), Sierra Storm (Reno, Nevada), Texas Stampede (Austin) and the University of Arizona Wildcats (Phoenix).

“These quad rugby teams travel nationally and we always hear how excited they are to come to Irving because of our excellent facilities and warm weather,” said Interim Parks and Recreation Department Director Ray Cerda Jr. “Those who have been to a quad rugby game know that the wheelchairs do not lessen the excitement in any way—the games are intense and inspiring.”

The final game, which is set for Feb. 19 at noon, will be followed with the awards ceremony. Admission to all games is free and open to the public. For game schedule or other information, click here.
