Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis announced that Billy Bob Dunfield, 67, of Frisco, Texas, has been sentenced to 70 years in prison without the possibility of parole for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child and Indecency with a Child involving two separate victims.
Dunfield gained ongoing access to the two children, whom he sexually abused over a seven-year period, beginning when one of the victims was just five years old. The abuse came to light when the mother of one of the victims discovered text messages the child had sent to a friend. During the trial, a third victim testified to suffering similar abuse at Dunfield’s hands.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Dunfield manipulated the victims into removing their clothing under the guise of giving massages, exploiting this access to commit repeated acts of sexual abuse. Law enforcement later found a massage table and oils at his home, matching the victims’ descriptions, which, combined with consistent testimony, underscored the calculated nature of his crimes.
Frisco Police Department Detective Roy Winter investigated the case. He found that Dunfield had lied to the victims’ guardians, falsely claiming he was innocent of prior charges to gain their trust and access to the children. The victims were forensically interviewed at the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center, where they provided graphic details of the abuse.
Dunfield is a repeat offender, having been convicted of Possession of Sexually Explicit Visual Depictions of Minors in federal court in 2005, for which he served prison time. This conviction required him to register as a sex offender for life. Despite this, he reportedly lied to guardians, falsely claiming wrongful conviction to gain access to new victims.
A jury found Dunfield guilty of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child and Indecency with a Child and delivered the maximum sentence of 70 years in prison. By law, a sentence for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child is without eligibility for parole.
Judge Lena Levario presided over the case. Prosecutors Alex Haynes and Nicole Minwell led the case, supported by investigators Greg Bowers and Jennifer Gomez, Victim Assistance Coordinator Dixie Harden, and Legal Secretary Raman Kaur.
DA Greg Willis issued a warning to the community: “This predator conned his way into kids’ lives, abused them for years, and thought he’d get away with it again. He’d already done federal time for child pornography and was a registered sex offender for life — and still, he lied his way into these families’ trust. Predators don’t stop on their own. This case proves it. Thanks to the courage of these children and the work of our multidisciplinary team, he’ll never touch another child again — and we urge parents and guardians to stay vigilant and speak up if something feels wrong.”
"Thank you to everyone involved in this case for ensuring that the voices of these victims were heard and securing significant prison time for this predator, " said the Frisco Police Department in a statement.
