A Tarrant County jury on Friday, May 23, found 43-year-old Dennis Maurice Jones guilty of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced him to 60 years in prison.
The charges stem from a brutal, unprovoked attack on August 10, 2024, inside The Container Store in Arlington. According to authorities, Jones entered the store and suddenly attacked a mother and her daughter with a metal pipe. The mother was found lying in a pool of blood and unable to speak. Her daughter had been knocked unconscious by the blows.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Prosecutors noted that Jones is a habitual offender, with prior felony convictions including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault of a public servant. Due to his repeat offender status, the jury was able to hand down an enhanced sentence.
Jones was immediately taken into custody following the sentencing.
