19-Year-Old Sentenced to 28 Years for Murder at Garland Airbnb Party

Kadarrion Scott

A Dallas County jury has convicted 19-year-old Kadarrion Scott of Murder and sentenced him to 28 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a man at a birthday party held at an Airbnb.

The incident occurred during a dice game around a pool table. According to witnesses, tensions rose when the victim’s friend began winning and a large amount of money was placed on the table. Scott and several others were seen inching closer to the game, prompting a witness to warn the victim. The victim approached to stand beside his friend.

As the victim’s friend reached over to collect his winnings, Scott allegedly pulled the friend’s gun from his pocket and aimed it at him. When the victim reached out to swat the weapon away, Scott turned and shot the victim before fleeing the scene. Most attendees also fled, but a few remained and gave statements to police identifying “Pookah” as the shooter. U.S. Marshals later confirmed that “Pookah” was Scott.

One of the witnesses, who had known Scott previously, became difficult to serve in the lead-up to the trial. After being served, she received a phone call from Scott in jail instructing her not to testify or to claim she was intoxicated and didn’t remember the incident. Investigators later discovered Scott had arranged for a third party to hide the witness in a hotel to prevent her from appearing in court.

The court granted a motion for forfeiture by wrongdoing, allowing the witness’s prior statements to law enforcement to be presented at trial. Scott was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Sarah Hughes and Loren Collins, with investigative support from DA Investigators John Schingle and JD Williams. The case was investigated by the Garland Police Department.
