Two teams from Singley Academy, "Baddies at Law" and "Spectacular Spectacles," recently showcased their exceptional creativity and problem-solving skills at the Destination Imagination Global Finals, held from May 22-25, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. Both teams achieved first place in their respective categories and were recognized with the prestigious High Instant Challenge Award.
The Global Finals serve as the culmination of the Destination Imagination (DI) season, bringing together top-tiered teams from around the world to compete in open-ended STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) challenges.
The "Baddies at Law" team competed in the Improv Challenge – “Are We There Yet?” This challenge required students to research real-world and fictional destinations to prepare for an improvisational skit. At the competition, they were given two assigned locations and a few minutes to create a skit featuring a traveling character, a detailed route, a mode of transportation, and a surprise detour. Team members for "Baddies at Law" include Gabriela Alvarado, Drew Creeger, Nkaji Mwangala, Ethan Parada, Citlaly Ramirez-Jimenez, and Jaira Villatoro.
The "Spectacular Spectacles" team tackled the Technical Challenge – “Breaking Point.” For this category, students were tasked with designing and building assembly equipment to create a stack of items, then engineering a device to destroy that stack. They also presented a story about a character who lacks something essential and attempts to gain it. Team members for "Spectacular Spectacles" are Eddie Andrade, Gabriel Esqueda, Ash Guzman, Mason Keojampa, and Angela Rojas.
The High Instant Challenge Award, received by both Singley Academy teams, recognizes exceptional performance in spontaneous challenges that test quick thinking and teamwork throughout the tournament.
