The Dallas Police Department’s Downtown Task Force arrested an out-of-state fugitive and documented gang member who was allegedly selling drugs in the 400 block of North Lamar Street on Friday, June 27, 2025, at approximately 9 p.m.
Downtown Task Force officers on foot patrol observed Dencel Idris, 33, conduct a drug sale. When officers attempted to apprehend him, Idris fled on foot but was ultimately tasered and taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, Idris was found with approximately 26 grams of cocaine. He was also wanted on multiple felony warrants out of Arizona.
“Proactively disrupting criminal networks and seizing dangerous drugs before they reach our streets is our priority,” said Assistant Chief Mark Villarreal. “Every day, our officers are protecting lives with their dedication and vigilance.”
Idris has been charged with Evading Arrest or Detention (Class A Misdemeanor) and Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance (first-degree felony). He was also arrested on the felony warrants from Arizona. His bond was set at $80,000, but he will remain in jail as the Lapaz County Sheriff's Office in Arizona has requested a hold on their warrant.
The investigation is documented under case number 091478-2025.
