Dallas Police Drone Program Helps Officers Safely Rescue Man Walking on Freeway

DALLAS, Texas - The Dallas Police Department said its Drone First Responder program helped officers safely locate and remove a man walking on a Dallas freeway Thursday afternoon, May 21st.

Police said officers received a call around 4:15 p.m. reporting a man walking into traffic in the 3900 block of northbound Julius Schepps Freeway (I-45).

According to the department, a pilot assigned to the Drone First Responder program deployed an unmanned aerial system to the scene and quickly located the man on the freeway.

Authorities said the drone operator maintained visual contact with the individual while directing responding officers to his location.

Uniformed officers then safely removed the man from the freeway before he was injured, police said.

The department described the incident as one of the first successful outcomes generated through the Drone First Responder program.
