Irving ISD Approves Significant Teacher Pay Raises Following Historic State Funding

The Irving Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees has approved substantial updates to its 2025-2026 salary schedule, directing new state funding towards significant pay raises for teachers. This move comes in the wake of the 89th Texas Legislature's passage of House Bill 2 (HB 2), which allocated $8.5 billion in new funding to public education, including $4.2 billion specifically for educator compensation.

Superintendent Hernandez's focus on teacher recruitment and retention played a key role in the Board's decision. The approved updates specifically target teacher salaries for the upcoming 2025-2026 contract year, incorporating the HB 2 Teacher Retention Allotment adjustments for those meeting the "classroom teacher" definition as per Texas Education Code §5.001.

The approved raises include:

  • $2,500 raise for teachers with three (3) to four (4) years of experience.

  • $5,000 raise for teachers with five (5) or more years of experience.

Teachers not meeting the Texas Education Code's definition of "classroom teacher" will not receive the HB 2 Teacher Retention Allotment adjustment. However, recognizing the commitment of its newest educators, the Board of Trustees also approved a $1,000 increase in compensation for teachers with zero (0) to two (2) years of experience.

Irving ISD's administration is also working closely with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) planning team to prepare for the implementation of TEA’s grant-funded Strategic Compensation initiative over the next several years. This initiative is expected to significantly impact the district’s compensation model for high-performing educators, forming a broader strategy for staff recruitment and retention.

The district affirmed its commitment to advocating for competitive compensation for all educators and will continue to provide updates for Board consideration and approval as new information becomes available regarding Texas Strategic Compensation and enhanced TIA districts.
