Euless Police Warn Residents of Rising Overseas Rental Scam Costing Victims Thousands

The Euless Police Department is alerting residents to a growing rental home scam targeting individuals through popular listing platforms such as Facebook, Craigslist, Rently, and other property sites.

According to investigators, overseas fraudsters are copying legitimate property advertisements and contacting potential renters via email or text. They often provide convincing details, including key codes for property walk-throughs, before having victims sign fake leases and transfer money to fraudulent bank accounts. In other cases, payment is requested through person-to-person services like CashApp, Zelle, or Venmo.

Once funds are transferred, the scammers empty the accounts and cut off all communication. Recent reports from Euless residents indicate losses in the thousands of dollars.

Authorities urge potential renters to verify listings through reputable real estate websites and never send money or sign documents without confirming property details.

Anyone with doubts about a rental listing or transaction is encouraged to contact the Euless Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 817-685-1500 or the non-emergency line at 817-685-1526.
