A 45-year-old man was killed Friday night in a wrong-way crash that shut down part of State Highway 114 near the Irving–Grapevine city limits.
The collision happened just before 8:30 p.m. on August 29, when a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of SH-114 struck another car head-on, according to Irving and Grapevine police.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and closed the westbound lanes of SH-114 beginning at North Freeport Parkway for several hours while they worked the crash.
The wrong-way driver, identified as Donald Joseph Personett Jr., 45, received medical assistance at the scene but was later pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported by Grapevine Fire Department to a local hospital in critical condition.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. The Dallas County Medical Examiner will perform a toxicology test.
Police reports show that Personett from Aubrey, TX, was arrested on June 1st, 2025 by Denton County deputies for DWI with previous arrests for the same reason. He had been previously convicted of Intoxication Manslaughter in Denton County.
Police have not released further details on the condition of the driver hospitalized. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
