IRVING, Texas - An Irving man remains in custody after police say he repeatedly assaulted his girlfriend, threatened to kill her with a kitchen knife and resisted officers who responded to the scene.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:40 a.m. on July 11 to the Park Springs Apartments in the 2000 block of W. Irving Boulevard following a report of a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, they found 40-year-old Esau Argueta-Berrios holding the 34-year-old victim by the wrist, according to the arrest report.
Police said officers repeatedly ordered Argueta-Berrios to release the woman and place his hands behind his back. Instead, investigators say he refused and actively resisted arrest by tensing his arms, pulling away from officers and tucking his arms beneath his body.
After approximately one minute of struggling with the suspect, officers were able to place him in handcuffs.
During the investigation, the victim told police she and Argueta-Berrios had been dating for about six months and were living together at the apartment.
According to the police report, the woman said a verbal argument escalated when Argueta-Berrios allegedly struck her multiple times in the face, stomach and legs with a closed fist, causing her nose to bleed.
She also alleged that he bit her, armed himself with a kitchen knife, held it over her and threatened to kill her, leaving her in fear for her life.
Argueta-Berrios was arrested and booked into the Irving Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence and resisting arrest, search or transportation.
He was later transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where jail records indicate an immigration detainer has been placed on him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
