Fort Worth Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend

Defendant: Devin Bussey

FORT WORTH, Texas—A Tarrant County jury has found 44-year-old Devin Sebastian Bussey guilty of assaulting a family member, a charge enhanced by his previous conviction for a similar offense. He has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The incident occurred on September 20, 2023, when Bussey's ex-girlfriend reported to Fort Worth Police that he had assaulted her at her home. According to the victim, Bussey refused to leave after an argument, knocked her phone out of her hand when she threatened to call the police, and then hit her twice in the face.

Bussey has a history of violent offenses. He was previously convicted of Attempt to Commit Sexual Assault and was released from prison in October 2020. He was also arrested in 2021 for sexual assault, strangulation, and assault of a pregnant woman. In April 2023, he was arrested again for violating a protection order. As a result of these convictions, Bussey is required to register as a sex offender in Texas for 10 years, with his registration expiring in 2033.

The prosecution team included Jaimie Jernigan and Michael Mooneyham, with investigative support from Kristina Gonzalez and victim coordination by Clara Salvatierra.
