BEDFORD, TX - Bedford police say a teenage boy was hurt Sunday afternoon in a shooting tied to an illegal drug deal, despite the victim first claiming he was shot during a road rage encounter on SH 183.
Around 4:30 p.m. on December 7, Bedford officers were called to a medical facility in Hurst after the teen arrived with a gunshot wound to the upper body. The injury was described as non-life-threatening. At first, the teen told officers he was riding as a passenger on westbound SH 183 when someone in another vehicle opened fire.
Detectives quickly uncovered a different story. After interviewing everyone involved, they learned the teen and a friend, who is also a minor, had arranged to meet another person in Bedford for a drug transaction. During the meeting, the friend started to drive away, and someone fired several shots into the vehicle. One of those rounds hit the passenger.
The driver rushed the victim to a nearby medical facility, where staff alerted law enforcement.
Police say the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and investigators are still working to identify the suspect. No additional details are being released at this time.
