LEWISVILLE, TX - Lewisville Police Chief Brook Rollins announced Monday that Internal Affairs charges have been sustained against Officer Zacur Vargas following the Lewsiville officer's arrest on a sexual assault charge involving a minor.
Vargas, 32, resigned from the Lewisville Police Department on Monday as Chief Rollins initiated termination proceedings. The department’s Internal Affairs investigation sustained findings of noncompliance with the law, immoral conduct, and disregard for public trust.
According to authorities, Vargas was arrested Friday morning in Heath, Texas, after investigators determined he was engaged in a public sexual act with a 16-year-old. He was off duty at the time of the incident.
The Heath Department of Public Safety took Vargas into custody and booked him into the Rockwall County Jail, where he was formally charged with sexual assault of a child. He was later released on bond.
The criminal investigation is being handled by the Heath Department of Public Safety in coordination with Rockwall County authorities. Separately, the Lewisville Police Department conducted its own Internal Affairs investigation, which resulted in the sustained policy violations.
Vargas had been employed with the Lewisville Police Department since May 2025 and was assigned to the Patrol Division.
“When a police officer violates the law, they violate the public trust, and that will not be tolerated in this department,” Chief Rollins said. “This incident does not reflect the values or actions of the men and women of this department who work every day to earn and uphold that trust. That is why we took immediate and decisive action.”
