Irving Police Launch New Year's Eve DWI Crackdown

IRVING, Texas - The Irving Police Department will step up enforcement efforts this New Year’s Eve with a targeted DWI initiative aimed at reducing impaired driving and preventing deadly crashes, officials announced.

The enforcement campaign runs from Wednesday, Dec. 31, through Thursday, Jan. 1, and supports the statewide #EndTheStreakTX initiative, which focuses on ending daily roadway deaths in Texas.

During the operation, DWI officers will concentrate patrols in high-risk areas and during peak times when impaired driving incidents are most likely. Police said the increased presence is intended both to identify and arrest impaired drivers and to discourage motorists from getting behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs.

The Irving Police Department, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, urged residents to plan ahead before celebrating.

“Plan While You Can,” officials said, reminding the public that alcohol and drugs impair judgment, decision-making, and reaction time. Drivers are encouraged to arrange a safe ride through a designated driver, taxi, rideshare service, or public transportation if they plan to drink.

Police also asked the public to remain alert. Anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver is urged to call 9-1-1 if it is safe to do so.
