Armed Standoff in Midlothian Ends With Arrest After Threats Reported

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas - A Midlothian man was taken into custody Tuesday after police say he pointed a firearm at a woman, threatened to shoot her, and later barricaded himself inside a residence, prompting a standoff and the deployment of a special response team.

According to the Midlothian Police Department, Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call on January 13, 2026, from a home in the 2400 block of Byrd Ranch Road reporting that Derrick Lyn Morris was pointing a gun at a female inside the residence.

Officers contacted Morris by phone, during which he admitted to pointing a firearm at the woman. Investigators said officers also spoke with the victim, who confirmed Morris threatened to shoot her.

Police said Morris refused repeated commands to exit the home, stating he was not going to jail and would not comply with officers. During negotiations, Morris told officers he had barricaded the front door and positioned weapons inside the residence.

Due to the severity of the alleged offense, the presence of firearms, and Morris’ refusal to cooperate, officers established a perimeter and requested additional resources. Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division obtained an arrest warrant charging Morris with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, along with a search warrant for the home.

The Special Response Team of the Southern Regional Response Group responded to the scene. After negotiations, Morris exited the residence unarmed and was taken into custody without further incident.

Morris was booked into the Midlothian Police Department Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
