DART Cuts Two Irving Bus Routes, Reducing Local Service Nearly 30%

DALLAS, Texas - Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will eliminate two Irving bus routes next month as part of a systemwide service overhaul, a move that reduces the city’s bus service by nearly 30% and leaves only four remaining routes in operation.

Under changes that take effect February 2, 2026, DART will discontinue Route 255 Story and Route 225 Nursery, both long-running lines that connected Downtown Irving to key destinations. Route 255 linked Downtown Irving and Heritage Crossing with the North Lake College campus along Irving Boulevard and Story Road, while Route 225 connected Downtown Irving to the University of Dallas area at Highway 114.

With those routes eliminated, Irving will be served by four bus lines: Route 227 O’Connor, Route 229 MacArthur, Route 230 Irving Boulevard, and Route 231 South Belt Line.

DART officials said the Irving changes are part of broader service adjustments approved by the DART Board of Directors in September 2025, following public hearings and feedback from member cities. The agency is discontinuing seven low-performing bus routes across the region, including Routes 225 Nursery and 255 Story, while adjusting rail and bus frequencies.

“These changes reflect what our riders and communities told us last year: minimize disruption while maintaining access,” said Jeamy Molina, DART’s executive vice president and chief communications officer. “By focusing service where it’s used most and keeping strong connections to rail, GoLink and key bus corridors, we’re helping move North Texas forward.”

Systemwide, weekday peak frequency on DART’s Red, Blue, Green, and Orange light-rail lines will shift from every 15 minutes to every 20 minutes. Off-peak weekday and weekend rail service will remain unchanged. Several bus routes will also see reduced frequencies, while others will receive minor schedule adjustments to improve connections.

DART said riders affected by discontinued routes will have alternatives through nearby bus lines, rail service, and GoLink on-demand transit. Updated schedules, route details, and boarding locations are available on DART’s service change website and through its trip-planning tools.

Riders can review new schedules and route details on DART’s service change landing page at www.DART.org/ServiceChange.

In addition to the February service changes, DART officials noted that fare adjustments, GoLink expansion, and potential site-specific shuttle partnerships are planned for later this year.

Residents are set to vote on the future of DART in Irving in a Special Election called by the City Council for May 2026.
