DALLAS, TX - A proactive traffic stop by Dallas police late Sunday night led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man and the seizure of significant amounts of narcotics, a firearm, and cash, authorities said.
Officers with the Dallas Police Department South Central Patrol were conducting enforcement operations around 11:00 p.m. on January 11, 2026, in the 4800 block of Hass Drive when they observed a vehicle with a defective license plate light and expired registration.
After initiating the stop, officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was detained, and during a pat-down, officers observed a handgun concealed in the driver’s waistband.
An inventory search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 85.2 grams of cocaine, about 3,165 grams of marijuana, one handgun, and $3,732 in U.S. currency.
The driver, identified as Julian Lewis, 25, was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor; manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1-B between 4 and 200 grams, a first-degree felony; and possession of marijuana greater than five pounds and less than or equal to 50 pounds, a third-degree felony.
Police said the arrest highlights the importance of proactive traffic stops and targeted patrols in removing illegal weapons and narcotics from Dallas neighborhoods. The case remains under investigation and is documented under case number 005452-2026.
