Suspected Drunk Driver Dies In Overnight Crash On I-30 Express Lane

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX - The Grand Prairie Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred late Tuesday night, January 20, 2026, on the eastbound IH-30 Express Lane near North Cockrell Hill Road. Dallas County Sheriff’s Office traffic deputies also responded to the scene.

According to police, the incident began around 11:30 p.m. when a Grand Prairie officer assigned to DWI traffic enforcement observed a Chevrolet SUV being driven in a manner consistent with possible intoxication near IH-30 eastbound and Belt Line Road. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and continued traveling eastbound, entering the IH-30 express lanes.

Investigators say the driver was unable to maintain a driving lane and, within minutes, struck a barrier wall, causing the vehicle to rollover and crash. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the SUV, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

During the investigation, officers located numerous containers of alcohol inside the vehicle, and authorities allege the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released and will be confirmed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.

The crash remains under active investigation.
