Man Arrested After Home Invasion, Holding Ex-Wife And Boyfriend At Gunpoint In Irving Home

Ricardo Gabriel Hernandez

IRVING, Texas - An armed home invasion in a North Irving neighborhood Saturday night ended with police forcing entry into a residence and arresting a man accused of holding two people at gunpoint, according to the Irving Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at about 10:24 p.m. Jan. 17 to the 2800 block of Trinity Street, near Johnston Elementary School, after a caller reported a disturbance and said a man had kicked in a door and entered a home while armed with a handgun. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Ricardo Gabriel Hernandez.

When officers arrived, they heard a woman screaming for help inside the residence. Due to the immediate threat, officers forced entry into the home and detained Hernandez along with two victims, identified as his ex-wife and her current boyfriend.

Police said Hernandez and the female victim have been legally divorced since January 2025 and that Hernandez had not lived at the residence for more than a year. According to statements from both victims, Hernandez broke into the home, held them at gunpoint, and threatened to kill them if they attempted to leave. The male victim told officers he begged to be allowed to exit the home but was threatened with death if he tried.

Officers located a handgun inside the residence. During a search incident to arrest, police also found Hernandez was wearing a handgun holster.

Hernandez was taken into custody and initially booked into the Irving Jail. He was charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of domestic violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of burglary of a habitation, three counts of unlawful restraint, and aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon.

Hernandez was later transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where he later posted bond.
