Student Killed In Afternoon Shooting Near Woodrow Wilson High School, Teen Suspect Arrested

DALLAS, TX - An 18-year-old high school senior was killed Thursday afternoon after a shooting at the fields across from Woodrow Wilson High School, and a 16-year-old suspect has been taken into custody, authorities said.

According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded around 3:45 p.m. Jan. 22 to a reported shooting in the 300 block of South Glasgow Drive at Randall Park Fields. Investigators determined that 18-year-old Wornan Garcia-Padilla had been shot at the location.

Garcia-Padilla was a senior at Woodrow Wilson High School and a member of the school’s soccer team. The Dallas Independent School District said three students from the school were involved in the incident.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and transported Garcia-Padilla to a local hospital, where he later died.

Police said a 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder. The suspect’s name has not been released because of their age. Investigators said it is unknown at this time whether the other two students involved will face charges.

Dallas ISD officials said parents were notified through electronic communication that a student had been killed. Mental health clinicians will be available on campus at Woodrow Wilson High School on Friday, and increased patrols will be present around the school.

The investigation remains ongoing under case number 010747-2026. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective C. Shelton at 214-671-3584 or by email at c.shelton@dallaspolice.gov.
