DESOTO, TX - DeSoto police arrested a 27-year-old man early Saturday morning following a series of vehicle burglaries reported during frigid overnight conditions, authorities said.
According to the DeSoto Police Department, officers from the Charlie Shift responded around 3:30 a.m. Jan. 24 to the 1400 block of Estate Lane after a resident reported suspicious activity captured on a home surveillance camera. The footage showed an unknown male dressed in black, wearing a ski mask and carrying a flashlight while breaking into parked vehicles.
Officers quickly responded, established a perimeter, and deployed a police drone to assist in the search. A drone operator located the suspect, later identified as Broderick Leon Slaughter, in the backyard of a residence in the 900 block of Worthington Drive.
Investigators said surveillance footage collected at the scene positively identified Slaughter as the individual responsible for at least two vehicle burglaries. Slaughter, a DeSoto resident, was taken into custody without incident.
Slaughter was charged with two counts of vehicle burglary, criminal trespassing, and resisting arrest. No officers or citizens were injured during the incident.
Police said the investigation remains active. Anyone with additional information or relevant video footage is asked to contact the DeSoto Police Department at 972-223-6111.
