DeSOTO, Texas - A late-night domestic disturbance in DeSoto escalated into a hourslong standoff Thursday before ending in a self-inflicted shooting, police said.
Officers with the DeSoto Police Department responded around 11:30 p.m. Feb. 5 to the 400 block of Goldeneye Drive after a caller reported a family member had threatened to shoot two relatives while pointing a firearm at them. The suspect was identified as Cedrick Renard Johnson, 55.
Both alleged victims exited the home safely and met with officers. Johnson remained inside.
Police attempted to persuade Johnson to surrender, but when he stopped communicating, the department’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiations Team were deployed. Negotiators worked for several hours to resolve the situation without force.
After repeated attempts to establish contact were unsuccessful, officers entered the residence and located Johnson armed in the master bedroom. Police said Johnson turned the firearm on himself and fired a single round.
Officers immediately began life-saving measures and transported Johnson to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 a.m. Feb. 6.
No civilians or officers were injured during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
