LITTLE ELM, TX - Little Elm Police Chief Rodney Harrison says officers safely arrested 40-year-old Matthew Sierra on Saturday, February 7th, following a vehicle pursuit and hours-long standoff.
On Friday, February 6th, the Little Elm Police Department received a report that Sierra had violated a protective order involving a minor. The violation was later reported to the child’s parent. When officers initially responded, Sierra was not located in the area.
Early Saturday morning, officers were proactively heading to check on the protected individual when they spotted Sierra’s vehicle at a gas station near the victim’s residence. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Sierra fled, leading to a short pursuit.
Sierra was later found in Prosper, parked under a bridge. During the standoff, he made repeated threats to harm himself and told officers he wanted them to use deadly force. Little Elm’s Drone Unit confirmed he was holding what appeared to be a gun. SWAT teams from Little Elm, Prosper, and Celina responded to assist.
For several hours, the department’s Hostage Negotiation Team worked to peacefully resolve the situation. At approximately 3:15 p.m., Sierra surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody.
Sierra had an active felony warrant for violating a protective order and now faces an additional charge of Evading Arrest/Detention in a Motor Vehicle.
Chief Harrison praised the officers’ proactive response and the patience shown throughout the standoff, crediting coordinated efforts from neighboring agencies, including Prosper, Frisco, Celina, Elm Ridge, Aubrey, and the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, for helping bring the incident to a safe conclusion without injury.
