DALLAS, TX — A man who reportedly told officers he wanted to be shot was killed Sunday night after charging at police and reaching for an officer’s gun, according to the Dallas Police Department.
Officers responded around 7:36 p.m. on February 8 to the 5100 block of Lemmon Avenue, near the Dallas North Tollway, following a call about a man threatening to harm himself with a weapon.
When officers knocked on the apartment door, the suspect opened it holding a box cutter in his right hand, then slammed the door shut. Officers reported hearing him shout through the door, “Put away the taser, I don’t want to f***ing stab myself. I want to get shot.”
At the same time, officers said they heard him yell toward someone inside the apartment, “This is your fault.”
A short time later, the man opened the door again and aggressively charged toward officers while reaching for one officer’s firearm. Officers discharged their weapons, striking him in the upper torso.
Police immediately rendered medical aid at the scene. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
This marks the third officer-involved shooting in Dallas in 2026. The incident remains under active investigation, and additional information is expected to be released in the coming days.
