IRVING, Texas - Delia Watley, Adult Education and Literacy Grant Program Strategist for Irving Independent School District, has been named Administrator of the Year by the Texas Association for Literacy and Adult Education, recognizing her leadership and contributions to adult learning programs across the state.
Watley received the honor during the TALAE Conference on Feb. 12. The Texas Association for Literacy and Adult Education is a statewide organization that advocates for adult education and literacy programs while supporting educators and administrators who serve adult learners throughout Texas.
Watley said the recognition holds special significance because it comes from fellow professionals in the field.
“To be chosen by TALAE is really special,” Watley said. “It feels like a celebration from my peers and an acknowledgment of the work we have done together over the years.”
Irving ISD’s Adult Education and Literacy program has served approximately 1,000 students annually since 2002. The program offers GED preparation, English as a Second Language courses, and workforce training opportunities, including forklift certification, supply chain instruction, customer service training, and other career-focused programs.
In addition to receiving the award, Watley has played an active role within TALAE, including service on the organization’s executive board. She described TALAE as the largest advocate for adult education in Texas and said the recognition underscores the importance of expanding access to education for adult learners.
Watley noted that TALAE honors both administrators and students. Irving ISD participants have previously earned scholar awards from the organization, including recognition in career pathway programs.
She said the award reflects the continued impact of Irving ISD’s Adult Education and Literacy program and its mission to support adult learners throughout the community.
