Downtown Dallas Foot Patrol Leads to Three Arrests, Outstanding Felony Warrants Discovered

DALLAS — A routine downtown foot patrol by Dallas Police officers resulted in three arrests Wednesday morning, including suspects wanted on outstanding felony forgery warrants.

On February 25, 2026, at approximately 9:15 a.m., officers assigned to the Dallas Police Department’s Central Business Division were conducting a routine foot patrol in the 900 block of Pacific Avenue. The patrol was part of ongoing efforts to maintain a visible law enforcement presence and engage with residents and businesses in the downtown area.

During the patrol, officers observed a man later identified as 23-year-old Coby Vandergriff crossing the street while a “Do Not Cross” pedestrian signal was illuminated. Officers stopped Vandergriff and conducted a subject check, which revealed an active warrant for First-Degree Felony Forgery issued by the Texarkana Police Department, along with multiple outstanding warrants from the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office.

During a search incident to arrest, officers located marijuana in Vandergriff’s pockets. He was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana Under Two Ounces in a Drug-Free Zone, a Class A misdemeanor.

As officers continued their patrol, they observed two individuals loitering behind a nearby business displaying posted “No Loitering” signs. When officers approached, they detected the odor of marijuana coming from one of the individuals.

Coby Vandergriff and Kirk Rhoads

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Kirk Rhoads, told officers he had marijuana in his pockets. Officers recovered several small clear bags containing marijuana, and Rhoads was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Marijuana Under Two Ounces in a Drug-Free Zone.

The second individual, identified as 23-year-old JaTavia Thompson, was also detained after officers determined she had two outstanding First-Degree Felony Forgery warrants out of the Texarkana Police Department. She was arrested without incident.

Dallas Police officials say proactive policing efforts such as foot patrols and pedestrian contacts help officers deter crime, strengthen community relationships, and enhance public safety throughout the city.
