HURST, Texas - A man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly dragging an officer and leading police on a multi-city pursuit in a U-Haul truck Sunday in Hurst.
Officers were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. on March 22, 2026, to the 700 block of Highway 26 after reports of a U-Haul being driven erratically. Witnesses told police the driver had exited the vehicle and was yelling at unknown individuals.
When officers arrived, they made contact with the suspect, later identified as Justin Vance Carter, who was found to have active warrants for his arrest.
As officers attempted to detain him, Carter fled in the U-Haul, briefly dragging one officer before another officer was able to pull them to safety.
Police said Carter then circled back and drove directly at a second officer, who avoided being struck by moving behind a barrier.
The suspect fled the area, leading officers on a low-speed pursuit that lasted about an hour and spanned multiple jurisdictions.
Officers from North Richland Hills, Haltom City, and Watauga Police Departments assisted in the pursuit. Carter was ultimately taken into custody by Hurst officers at approximately 12:41 p.m.
He is now charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading arrest in a vehicle, resisting arrest, and possession of a controlled substance, in addition to his outstanding warrants.
Authorities said no officers suffered major injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing.
