DALLAS, Texas - A tragic and unusual crash on Interstate 35 claimed the life of a 79-year-old man Saturday morning in Dallas.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded around 8:00 a.m. on March 21, 2026, to a fatal crash on the northbound I-35 express lanes near 8th Street.
Investigators determined that a Chevy Tahoe traveling southbound lost one of its wheels while in motion. The detached wheel crossed into the northbound express lanes and struck a vehicle.
The impact caused fatal injuries to the driver of the northbound vehicle, identified as 79-year-old Richard Hood Dunham.
Traffic deputies shut down the express lanes and portions of the southbound lanes for several hours while crews investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
