DALLAS, Texas — A 43-year-old man has been federally charged after striking a Deputy U.S. Marshal with a pickup truck while attempting to flee a traffic stop, authorities said.

Senel Galiano Sagastume, a citizen of Guatemala, was charged by federal complaint on March 24, 2026, with assaulting a federal officer, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.

According to the complaint, officers initiated a traffic stop and instructed Sagastume to pull over. Investigators said Sagastume and his passengers refused to roll down the vehicle’s windows, prompting officers to breach them.

Authorities allege Sagastume then placed the Chevrolet Silverado in drive and accelerated toward a uniformed Deputy U.S. Marshal, pinning the deputy between the truck and a law enforcement vehicle and causing bodily injury. Officials said the impact also caused visible damage to the deputy’s uniform.

Sagastume then fled the scene, driving to an apartment complex in Richardson, where he ran inside a unit. Officers arrested him following an hours-long standoff.

If convicted, Sagastume faces up to 20 years in federal prison for forcibly assaulting a federal officer and inflicting bodily injury.

Sagastume appeared before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Dallas on March 25, 2026, and remains in federal custody pending further proceedings.

The case is being investigated by the FBI Dallas Field Office and the U.S. Marshals Service, with prosecution handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.
