HUTCHINS, Texas — A suspect is in custody following a shooting early Sunday morning at an apartment complex in Hutchins, police said.
Officers with the Hutchins Police Department responded just after midnight on March 29, 2026, to reports of a shooting at the Hutchins Gateway Apartments in the 700 block of J.J. Lemon Road.
Upon arrival, officers located a male victim in a breezeway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Witnesses directed officers to a nearby apartment, where the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident.
Hutchins Fire/EMS personnel provided medical aid at the scene before transporting the victim to a local hospital for further treatment.
According to witness statements and doorbell camera footage, the incident began as a verbal altercation between the victim and the suspect. Police said the situation escalated when the victim and two other individuals allegedly began physically assaulting the suspect.
During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly produced a handgun and fired two rounds, striking the victim once.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved as the investigation remains ongoing.
