DESOTO, Texas — A DeSoto police officer was injured early Sunday morning after a suspected drunk driver crashed into his patrol vehicle, officials said.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on March 22, 2026, along southbound Interstate 35E in the 1500 block.
According to police, the officer had stopped a motorist for a traffic violation and was seated inside his patrol car when a second vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck the cruiser.
The officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other motorists were injured in the crash.
The driver who struck the patrol vehicle, identified as 21-year-old Natalee Johnson of Ovilla, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
The DeSoto Police Department reminded the public to avoid drinking and driving and encouraged the use of rideshare services or designated drivers.
Officials said they are grateful the incident did not result in any fatalities.
