KELLER, Texas — A teacher has been arrested following an investigation into allegations that a young student was unlawfully restrained at a Keller elementary school.
According to the Keller Police Department, the investigation began on March 3, 2026, when a parent reported that her 4-year-old autistic child had been held down for approximately 10 minutes during nap time at Shady Grove Elementary School. The incident was reported to have occurred on February 9.
Detectives learned that a teacher’s aide had previously reported the incident to the school principal after witnessing the alleged restraint. Police said both the principal and the aide fully cooperated with the investigation.
Authorities identified the teacher as Charissa Newport. An arrest warrant was obtained on April 1 for unlawful restraint of a child younger than 17. Newport was taken into custody at her residence in Keller the same day.
She was booked into the Keller Regional Detention Center and has since been released on bond.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information related to this incident or similar cases to contact Detective Garrett at jgarrett@cityofkeller.com.
