FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — A police officer fired at a suspect during a vehicle pursuit after the driver rammed two patrol units in a residential neighborhood, authorities said.
The incident began around 7:36 a.m. when a vending company employee reported a box truck stolen from the 14000 block of Dallas Parkway. The company provided real-time tracking information, allowing officers to locate the vehicle and attempt a traffic stop.
Police said the driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit during which he drove erratically and at times in the wrong direction before entering a residential area.
The chase ended in the 12300 block of Brittany Circle in Dallas, where the suspect stopped the truck, then reversed and struck an occupied patrol vehicle. Investigators said the suspect then drove forward toward officers, hitting a second occupied patrol unit.
At that point, an officer discharged a firearm. The suspect was not struck.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Travis Stone, later surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities said Stone is wanted on a full extradition warrant from the Arizona Department of Corrections for a parole violation related to armed robbery.
No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.
The officer who fired has been placed on routine administrative leave pending review.
Officials said two investigations are underway, including an internal review by the department and a criminal investigation led by the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
