DALLAS, Texas — A two-year-old child has died after suffering a gunshot wound in the Cedar Crest area of Dallas, authorities said.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded around 1:20 p.m. April 23, 2026, to a shooting call in the 1700 block of Hemphill Drive.
Preliminary information indicates the young child sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where the child later died.
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
“This is a heartbreaking and unacceptable loss,” said Police Chief Daniel Comeaux. “The death of a two-year-old is a senseless tragedy. As this investigation continues, we are committed to determining exactly what happened and ensuring accountability where it is warranted.”
The case remains under active investigation.
