FLOWER MOUND, Texas — A 24-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening, April 28th, after allegedly shooting his stepfather multiple times inside a Flower Mound residence following a family altercation, according to police.
Flower Mound Police Officers responded at approximately 7:04 p.m. to the 2700 block of Justin Road for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they found the suspect still at the scene and took him into custody without incident.
Police identified the suspect as Derek Jordan Cassel, 24, of Flower Mound. Investigators said Cassel shot his stepfather during a verbal dispute inside the home.
The victim was transported to Medical City Denton and is listed in serious but stable condition.
Cassel has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury involving family violence, a first-degree felony, and deadly conduct for discharging a firearm, a third-degree felony.
Authorities said the investigation determined that at least one bullet entered a neighboring residence. No injuries were reported in that home.
