Al Zapanta Wins Irving Mayoral Race in Landslide Victory; Results of Other Races

IRVING, Texas — Al Zapanta has been elected as Irving’s next mayor following a decisive win in the May 2, 2026 election.

Zapanta secured 67.13% of the vote with 5,989 ballots cast in his favor. His opponents, Zhanae Jackson and Olivia E. Novelo Abreu, received 18.61% (1,660 votes) and 14.26% (1,272 votes), respectively.

In a statement shared on social media, Zapanta thanked voters and emphasized his commitment to the city.

“This moment is all about the citizens of Irving. I am deeply honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of serving as your next Mayor,” Zapanta said. “Irving is a city full of opportunity for all, and the best is yet to come. Let’s get to work.”

Zapanta highlighted his background in the U.S. Army, business leadership and service on the City Council as part of his readiness to lead.

City Council Results

In other local races, Mark Cronenwett won Single-Member District Place 5 unopposed.

For Single-Member District Place 6, Fahad Ahmed was elected with 50.58% of the vote, defeating Dana Collins (40.49%) and Sushil C. Patel (8.94%).

The race for Single-Member District Place 3 will head to a runoff election after no candidate secured a majority. Abdul Khabeer led with 35.02% (747 votes), followed by Kejal Patel with 32.58% (695 votes) and Tammam Alwan with 32.40% (691 votes).

Irving ISD School Board Results

In Irving Independent School District elections, Kelly Snapp won the District 1 seat with 51.13% of the vote, narrowly defeating Tom Robles, who received 48.87%.

“Y’all!! WE did it!! Thank you all so much for coming out to vote,” Snapp said in a social media post.

In District 2, Heather Stroup won decisively with 70.88% of the vote over Mary Lewallen, who received 29.12%.

Election officials said final certification of results will follow standard procedures.
