DALLAS, Texas - Dallas police are asking for the public's help as detectives continue investigating the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man who was found several blocks away from the location where gunfire was initially reported.
Officers responded at approximately 6:46 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, to a shooting call in the 2300 block of Jordan Street in South Dallas.
When officers arrived, they were unable to locate a victim at the reported location.
Victim Found Eight Blocks Away
While searching the surrounding area for evidence related to the shooting, officers discovered Ricky Johnson, 20, unconscious and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the 2800 block of Metropolitan Avenue, about eight blocks from the original call.
Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel responded, but Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives Seeking Witnesses
Investigators have not identified a suspect, and no arrests have been made.
Because the investigation remains in its early stages, detectives are urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information about what happened to come forward.
The homicide investigation is documented under case number 115741-2026.
