DALLAS, Texas - The Dallas Police Department has released additional details and body-worn camera footage from an officer-involved shooting reported by Irving Weekly that occurred while an officer attempted to stop a violent domestic assault in northeast Dallas.
The incident occurred on Friday, Aug. 7, at an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Park Lane and marks the 10th officer-involved shooting involving the Dallas Police Department in 2026. Officials emphasized that the information released is preliminary and may change as the investigation continues.
Officer Confronts Knife-Wielding Suspect
According to Dallas police, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:50 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that Isidoro Melo-Munoz, 37, was armed with a knife and assaulting a woman with whom he had previously been in a dating relationship.
Sergeant John Arnold was the first officer to arrive at the apartment complex. As he entered the property, a witness flagged him down and directed him toward the disturbance.
Police said Arnold saw Melo-Munoz run toward the victim and begin assaulting her. Despite repeated commands from the sergeant, Melo-Munoz allegedly ignored those orders and stabbed the woman multiple times.
As the suspect fled while still armed with a knife, Sergeant Arnold fired one round in an attempt to stop him. The shot did not stop Melo-Munoz, who escaped the immediate area on foot.
Investigators later recovered one knife along the route where the suspect fled.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery. Police said she was later listed in stable condition.
Investigation Reveals Earlier Assault
Detectives determined that before officers arrived, Melo-Munoz confronted the victim as she was preparing to leave for work.
Witnesses told investigators the suspect prevented the woman from leaving and forced her to move to different areas of the apartment complex while armed with multiple knives.
Investigators recovered three knives from the scene.
Following the attack, Dallas police deployed additional resources, including the department's Drone Unit and Fugitive Unit, to locate the suspect.
Suspect Arrested One Day Later
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Melo-Munoz with Aggravated Assault – Family Violence with a Deadly Weapon.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, officers located him inside a convenience store in the 6700 block of Abrams Road, where he was taken into custody without incident.
In addition to the aggravated assault charge, Melo-Munoz was also booked on a warrant for Burglary with Intent to Commit Assault stemming from a separate incident involving the same victim that occurred on Aug. 5, 2026.
Body Camera Video Released
The Dallas Police Department said the released video presents the incident in chronological order using body-worn camera footage and surveillance video to provide context surrounding the shooting.
The case is being investigated by the department's Special Investigations Unit. The Dallas County District Attorney's Office responded to the scene and will conduct an independent review, while the Office of Community Police Oversight has also been notified.
The investigation remains active, and officials said additional information may be released as forensic testing, evidence analysis, and video review continue.
