Dallas Woman Stabbed to Death While Protecting Children; Suspect Arrested in Mexico

DALLAS, Texas - A 35-year-old woman was fatally stabbed while protecting two young family members during a violent attack at a Lake Highlands home Sunday morning, according to Dallas police.

Officers responded at approximately 6:38 a.m. on Aug. 9 to a disturbance with an ambulance call in the 8300 block of Skillman Street.

The preliminary investigation determined that 27-year-old Jesus Leal Huerta entered the residence, assaulted two minors, and fatally stabbed Daisy Moctezuma, 35.

Moctezuma was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a source familiar with the investigation, Moctezuma was protecting her daughter and niece during the attack when she was stabbed. Police have not officially confirmed that detail.

Suspect Captured in Mexico After Manhunt

Following the attack, Leal Huerta fled the scene, prompting Dallas investigators to issue a regional alert to assist in locating him.

Later Sunday evening, authorities located and arrested Leal Huerta in Nava, Coahuila in Mexico. He had crossed over from Eagle Pass, TX, into Piedras Negras, before continuing south about 24 miles into Nava.  Leal Huerta was attempting to flee to south Mexico where he has family.  Mexican Federal Agents located him and made the arrest. He is currently awaiting extradition to Dallas County.

Investigators said he is expected to face charges of:

  • Murder
  • Injury to a Child

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
