Over the past weekend, IPD Officer King ran with the Dallas Police Department’s team in the Baker to Vegas Relay Race. The DPD team was awarded the permanent team number 77 to honor the four fallen DPD officers from the July 7, 2016 attack. We’re super proud of Officer King for representing IPD and the DPD team extremely well during this event.
There were 234 teams from Canada, Australia, and Germany. Officer King finished 3rd overall in his leg of the race with a 6:19 per mile average. DPD finished 4th overall as a team in the invitational division, with a time of 15 hours and 57 minutes to complete the 120-mile race.
The Baker to Vegas relay race is a law-enforcement-only race with a history and reputation spanning more than thirty-five years. It pulls police agencies from across the nation and all over the globe to compete against each other in the largest law-enforcement event of its kind in the world. The LAPD Revolver and Athletic Club hosts the event. It is known for its capability to connect police agencies for networking and allowing all agencies to recognize their officers that have died in the line of duty the past year.
