Irving City Council to Consider Proposed BYOB Ordinance

The Irving City Council is considering an ordinance essentially requiring BYOB (“bring your own bottle” or “bring your own beverage”) venues to operate similarly to businesses licensed to sell alcohol. The proposed ordinance will be presented for consideration at the June 8, 2023 City Council meeting.

The proposed ordinance would add Chapter 18A to the Irving Code of Civil and Criminal Ordinances. The approved ordinance includes several regulations under consideration for BYOB venues:

  • Businesses allowing customers to BYOB for on-premise consumption would be required to operate in a manner similar to businesses that are licensed to sell alcohol by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), such as:
  • Businesses that offer BYOB would be required to obtain a permit, pay a fee, provide operator contact information and a floor plan of the venue.
