Frisco Police Officer and School Resource Officer Arrested for Inappropriate Relationship with 14-year-old Student

Kendal Augustus

Kendal Augustus, a 34-year-old police officer employed by the Frisco Police Department, has been arrested and subsequently terminated following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student.

The department became aware of the allegations, which occurred between 2017 and 2018, on June 8, 2023, involving Augustus and a 14-year-old student from Frisco Independent School District. In response, Augustus was immediately placed on administrative leave, and an investigation was launched.

After thorough internal and criminal investigations into the allegations of misconduct, Augustus was relieved of his duties on June 14th and taken into custody. He was later booked into Denton County Jail, facing charges of Sexual Assault of a Child (a second-degree felony), Indecency with a Child (a second-degree felony), and Sexual Performance of a Child (a third-degree felony). His total bond has been set at $55,000.

Augustus had been a member of the Frisco Police Department since July 2015 and was most recently assigned to the School Resource Officer Unit.

Expressing his dismay, Frisco Police Chief David Shilson stated, "As a member of the Frisco Police Department and a resident of this community, I am appalled by the actions of this former officer. He violated the trust of our community, the ethical standards of this department, and the values of our noble profession."

Chief Shilson also addressed the School Resource Officer Unit, acknowledging their dedication to fostering relationships and ensuring the safety of faculty and students. He lamented that the actions of one individual have attempted to undermine the trust placed in them.

Chief Shilson further affirmed the department's commitment to supporting the victim, providing necessary resources, and building a strong case for prosecution. He reassured the school district and its representatives of their dedication to rebuilding trust. Finally, Chief Shilson assured Frisco's parents that the department will maintain the highest standards for all its members to prevent such incidents from happening again.
