Sahana Kumar, a student at Coppell Middle School West, was selected for the Middle School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, New York. Sahana performed Violin 1 in June 2023 with the Middle School Honors Junior Orchestra. Participation in the Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated young performers from across the world.
Sahana auditioned for the Honors Performance Series and was recently accepted after a review by the Honors Selection Board. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in their application and audition recording.
Sahana has studied violin for a little over 4 years and is a member of the Lone Star Youth Orchestra (LSYO), Texas. She has been a part of the LSYO for 2 years and played as Assistant Principal 2nd violin this year. In addition, Sahana takes formal voice lessons from Coppell Conservatory and has performed extensively; recently, in the local teen talent show, Irving’s Got Talent 2023. In response to her selection to the Middle School Honors Performance Series, Sahana said, “I am so grateful to have had this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It’s incredible that I’m able to say I performed at Carnegie Hall. As a result, I learned so much and was able to perform with the most talented musicians of my age I’ve met. It was an unforgettable experience.”
Sahana joined performers from 39 United States, the District of Columbia, and India for a special performance at the world-famous Carnegie Hall, New York, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. The finalists came together in New York City where they had the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other performers, and get a taste of NYC. The Honors Performance took place on June 17, 2023 and was open to the public.
“Being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each Finalist should be extremely proud of accomplishing,” said Marion Gomez, Music Director for the Honors Performance Series. “We processed nearly 10,000 nominations this year and have selected the most talented student performers from around the world. Working with these conductors and performing at these renowned music halls is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians will never forget.”
The Honors Performance Series was created to showcase accomplished individual student performers on an international level by allowing them to study under master conductors and perform in world renowned venues.
