A 47-year-old man from Irving, identified as Joel Oscar Alvarez, lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on State Highway 349 in south Midland County. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that the incident occurred on Saturday morning.
Alvarez was driving a 2009 Kenworth truck with a trailer attached, heading northbound on State Highway 349 near mile marker 358 at around 9:11 a.m. The DPS preliminary report stated that a blowout in the front left tire caused Alvarez to lose control of the vehicle. The truck veered across the southbound lane and collided with a utility pole, resulting in Alvarez's pronounced death at the scene.
The tragic accident transpired 19 miles south of Midland.
