The Austin ISD Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred at William B Travis High School located at 1211 E Oltorf St in South Austin. Just after 7:30 AM, two staff members alerted authorities after discovering a body hanging from a tree on the school's campus.
Upon arrival, officers from both the AISD Police Department and Austin Police Department (AustinPD) confirmed the presence of a deceased individual in the rear of the school. Medical personnel pronounced a teenage female dead at the scene. Homicide investigators are currently on site, working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the young girl's death.
In response to the incident, AISD has announced the cancellation of all classes at William B Travis High School for the day. The district has emphasized that the campus is secure and there is no immediate danger to students or staff members.
William B Travis High School is known for its early college education program and is situated in the South Austin community.
