Lewisville Patrol Officers responded to a report of a major crash on August 28, 2023, in the 1800 block of south I35E, near the intersection of E Corporate Dr. Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered a chaotic situation when one of the parties involved in the initial crash attempted to flee in their vehicle.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Gabriel Benzer of Denton, initiated a brief chase after attempting to escape the crash scene. During the pursuit, Benzer lost control of his vehicle and collided with a light pole, resulting in a second crash. Following the collision with the light pole, officers successfully detained Benzer.
Gabriel Benzer was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Hit-and-Run Accident Involving Injury, Hit-and-Run Accident Involving Damage, and Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle.
Benzer was released after posting a bond of $20,000.
