The City of Grand Prairie extends its heartfelt congratulations to Junior Ezeonu, At Large Place 8 City Council Member, for his well-deserved recognition with the prestigious Congressional Black Caucus Young, Gifted and Green 40 Under 40 Award. This honor was presented by the Black Millennials 4 Flint organization, applauding his exceptional dedication to environmental justice work, particularly in historically disenfranchised communities.
Mayor Ron Jensen of Grand Prairie expressed his admiration for Council Member Ezeonu, stating, "City Council Member Ezeonu’s receipt of this prestigious national honor is truly commendable. He is a rising star and sustainability champion who represents our city well by actively finding solutions to pressing environmental and social issues."
The annual award ceremony is scheduled for September 21 in Washington, D.C., and will feature Tennessee State Representative Justin J. Pearson as the Keynote Speaker.
Upon receiving the award, Council Member Ezeonu shared his gratitude, saying, "I am honored to receive this recognition. For us to create a sustainable world where our children can flourish, it will take a collective effort of our Grand community, united by our deep commitment to the well-being of our planet."
The "Young, Gifted & Green 40 under 40" is an annual list recognizing environmental justice leaders under the age of 40, originating from Black, Latin, and Indigenous communities across the United States. Nominees include individuals making a significant difference in environmental justice, such as educators, scientists, artists, policymakers, health care/public health professionals, faith-based leaders, mental health professionals, birth workers, farmers, social-justice advocates/activists, storytellers, journalists, entrepreneurs, technologists, chefs, clean-energy gurus, and social media influencers.
