On November 16, 2023, at approximately 6:05 AM, members of the U.S. Marshal’s North Texas Fugitive Task Force executed a Capital Murder warrant in the 9900 block of Adleta Boulevard.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jordan Owens, was wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred on October 16, 2023, in the 9700 block of Forest Lane.
The Task Force, comprised of officers and deputies from the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service, assisted by members of the Dallas Police Project Safe Neighborhood team, conducted the operation.
Preliminary findings indicate that, after announcing their presence and intent to serve the warrant, members of the task force were met with gunfire upon breaching the front door. In the exchange of gunfire, Dallas Police Task Force Member Senior Corporal Edgar Morales sustained a gunshot wound to his left calf. First aid was promptly administered, and Morales was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Despite commands to surrender, Owens did not comply, retreating briefly into the apartment before re-emerging and throwing items out of a window. Officers observed Owens armed with a handgun, prompting them to return fire.
A subsequent 911 call reported additional individuals in the apartment, leading task force members to evacuate witnesses before taking Owens into custody. Owens, injured during the incident, received medical treatment and is listed in stable condition.
At the scene, authorities recovered a handgun from the suspect, modified with a full-auto switch and extended magazine.
Investigation revealed that four task force members discharged their weapons during the incident. Officer Morales was treated and released for his injury. No other officers or civilians were harmed.
Jordan Owens faces charges of three counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, in addition to the Capital Murder warrant. The incident is under investigation by the Special Investigations Unit, with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of Community Police Oversight conducting separate inquiries. The suspect remains in stable condition in a local hospital.
